The EDGE Volleyball Club formed in 2004 with the goal to provide a positive, team oriented environment for the female athlete to develop to her full leadership and volleyball potential. We believe in coaching the whole athlete: developing personal confidence levels, individual technical skills, and lifelong leadership abilities.

The EDGE VBC has a solid track record with finishes in the top 10 in the State and National qualifiers. In 2011, the EDGE 18-Black finished 12th out of 104 teams in the 18-Club Division at the AAU National Championships in Orlando, Florida. During the 2010 season, The EDGE 18-Black finished 2nd in the Great Lakes Regional Qualifier and competed in the USAV National Division in Atlanta, Georgia. This 2010 team was also named one of the top 100 club teams on prepvolleyball.com. In 2009, the EDGE 17-Black team finished 3rd in the region, and 5th in the American Division at USAV Nationals in Miami, Florida. Their 5th place finish was the highest of any team from the Great Lakes Region that year. During the 2008 campaign, the EDGE 16-Black team finished 2nd in the Great Lakes Region and qualified for USAV Nationals in Dallas, TX. In addition to these accomplishments, EDGE volleyball teams routinely participate at the highest level tournaments around the country. In previous seasons, the EDGE Volleyball teams competed at the JVDA Championships in Louisville, KY, Northeast Qualifier in Baltimore, MD, the Mizuno Hoosier Mideast Qualifier in Indianapolis, IN and St. Louis, MO, the Colorado Crossroads in Denver, CO, and the Mizuno Northern Lights Qualifier in Minneapolis, MN. The club plans to continue to participate in the highest quality events and tournaments and even plans on attending some west coast tournaments this season.

In addition to team success, the EDGE has helped nurture players into the local and national spotlight. Current and former players have garnered All-Conference, All-State, and All-American accolades. Furthermore, numerous players from the EDGE are invited into the USAV High Performance Training Program every season.

The EDGE has quickly become one of the elite girls programs in the northern suburbs of Chicago. Located in nearby northshore Des Plaines, Illinois, the EDGE VBC includes players from Glenbrook South, Glenbrook North, Hersey, St. Viator, Resurrection Prep, Elk Grove, Prospect, Loyola, New Trier, York, and other local schools. If you or your daughter is interested in obtaining more information regarding the EDGE VBC, please fill out the contact form and check the website often for updates.

What is club volleyball and USAV?

Club volleyball is similar to other traveling sports like soccer and softball. USA Volleyball (USAV) is the governing body for the United States. The Chicagoland area is called the Great Lakes Region as a member of USAV. This region is one of the top regions for girls volleyball in the entire world. Club volleyball is a step-up from school organized teams and includes players from all over the area.

When does the season start and end?

Tryouts for elementary and middle school students typically start in October. High school tryouts start after the end of IHSA volleyball season which concludes in mid-to-late October. The season runs through the late spring with teams attending Nationals playing through the end of June.

What age groups does the EDGE plan on having teams for during the 2010-2011 season?

We plan on having at least (1) team at age groups 12-Under, 13-Under, 14-Under, 15-Under, 16-Under, 17-Under, and 18-Under

What if I have never played before?

Please still come and tryout! We are looking for competative players who want to be a part of something special. At The EDGE Volleyball Club we strive to create lifelong passionate volleyball players. Not everyone will be a Division I volleyball player, but everyone can play this great sport for life and our goal is to cultivate that love of the sport.

Does the team travel?

All EDGE Volleyball teams travel throughout the season. Each team will typically have at least (1) overnight weekend tournament. Majority of the teams will also play in at least (1) national qualifier out-of-state. Last year we had teams play in Nevada, Colorado, Florida, Missouri, Indiana, and Wisconsin. Typical weekend tournaments are in the Chicago area (Aurora, Niles, Licolnshire, Crystal Lake).

Does the EDGE have its own facility?

We have a dedicated practice facility, but we do not own it and we see this as a great advantage to the club and players. In not being bound to a costly facility it allows us to keep player costs down while allowing our teams the freedom to play when and where they want. Dedicated volleyball facilities are wonderful on the surface, however they come at great expense. Teams are forced to play in their own tournaments to keep the gyms filled regardless of the competition, and often players are asked to run concessions on their off-weekends.

How do I know which age group to tryout for?

Age groups are decided by USAV, the governing body for volleyball in the United States. Typically a players age is defined as the players current age on/or before September 1st, 2011.

Who are your coaches?

The caliber of the coaches is critical to the players success and love of the sport so we place huge emphasis on attracting and retaining top coaches. Most have been with us since the club began 6 years ago. They have outstanding volleyball resumes and are great with the players.

How competitive is your schedule?

Very and we believe the schedule is a critical factor to consider in choosing clubs. We typically play in the Great Lakes Power League (GLPL) and the Windy City Power League (WCPL) and other top tournaments around Chicago. Since we do not have to fill our own gym with tournaments each weekend we can choose to participate in any of the top tournaments offered each weekend

How successful are your teams?

We measure success in many ways and find that we are very successful across the board. We consistently are ranked high in the GLPL rankings and win many competitive tournaments. Our 18-Black team in 2010, which is the first team we had as 14s who played all 5 years with us, has 5 of the 8 graduating seniors playing college volleyball (Div 1, 2, and 3). Our 2011 18-Black team also has 5 of the 7 graduating seniors playing college volleyball this season. Our players consistently do well in their high school programs, earning all conference and MVP awards. Most importantly, we foster a life long love of volleyball and work hard to develop excellent work habits, positive attitudes, and good physical fitness.

Where does The EDGE practice at?

We practice in Des Plaines at Maryville Academy and at the Weiss Community Center in Mt. Prospect, Illinois.

How many times per week does the team practice?

Most of our teams will practice 2-3 times per week in the late afternoon/evenings. Exact times and individual player practice times will be announced closer to the tryout dates.
